COVID-19: Businesses Given Extension To File Accounts

The Government has announced a three month extension for businesses filing accounts to Companies House.

Dated: 25 March 2020 Author: Daran Harding, Business Development Director

In a joint initiative between the Government and Companies House, the extension will allow businesses to focus on managing the impact of Coronavirus.

Approximately 4.3 million businesses are on the Companies House register and must submit their accounts each year.

Normally automatic penalties are issued to companies that file their accounts late.

Companies will still have to apply for the three-month extension and businesses citing COVID-19 will automatically be granted an extension.

Applications can be made through a fast-tracked online system which takes just 15 minutes to complete.

The Government is also in consultation with company representative bodies, legal practitioners and others to look at solutions for the impact COVID-19 may have on companies’ ability to hold Annual General Meetings and updated guidance on this will be published in due course.
