Import of electrical and electronic equipment into Spain.

Last year, Spain introduced stricter controls for the import of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) from countries outside the EU. RoHS-RAEE controls were introduced on 16 January 2023 for imports and temporarily for re-imports.

These controls have been brought in to help with the strategy of improving the health and safety of the citizens and the environment. The controls also verify compliance with Waste electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), Waste batteries and accumulators (RPyA) and Restriction of Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment (RoHS).

Suppliers will need to ensure that the Spanish importer has completed a registration in the Integrated Industrial Registry (RII) and that all of the required documentation is available to prove conformity to the standards at the time of import.

If the importer is not established in Spain, they will need to appoint an authorised Spanish representative. Approval needs to be received from Spanish Customs to release the shipment for free circulation.

There are some exclusions from the controls which we can advise on.
