East Midlands Partner John Southwell is heading to the National Forest for a 100-mile cycle for Safe & Sound’s Butterfly Appeal on Sunday 16th August.

John originally entered the ‘My Prudential RideLondon’ event in a bid to raise cash, but the cycle was cancelled and is now going virtual for the first time due to COVID-19.

RideLondon is a 100-mile cycle route which starts on The Mall in central London and winds its way through the Surrey countryside before heading back to the capital.

However, this year cyclists have the option to complete a 100-mile stretch wherever they choose to raise money for the charities of their choice.

John is planning to head from his home in Burton and complete a 100-mile loop around the National Forest which covers 200 square miles across the Midlands taking in parts of Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Staffordshire.

Safe & Sound has been tackling child sexual exploitation since 2002 and provides high quality tailored one-to-one support to victims and young people in Derby and Derbyshire who are at risk.

The charity delivers education and awareness to children, parents, professionals and the public to ensure that those at risk of, or who are affected by, exploitation are responded to effectively.

It also gives young people affected by exploitation the opportunity to take part in positive events and activities that build their self-esteem.

The Butterfly Appeal was launched by Safe & Sound in 2019 and aims to raise funds to increase levels of support and reach even more vulnerable children and young people in the local communities.

John specialises in Accountancy and Business Services and has over 20 years of experience advising owner managed businesses, primarily in the Burton and Lichfield areas.

He said: “I was planning to take on the Prudential RideLondon event but due to the pandemic I now have the opportunity to take part in the event closer to home.

“I enjoy cycling in my spare time and I’m looking forward to the challenge and raising cash for a very worthy cause on my doorstep.

“Safe & Sound has been a chosen charity for our Derby and Burton offices for a number of years and I’d be really grateful for any donations which support the fantastic work they do across the Derbyshire community.”
