Dains are warning that HMRC is gearing up for the launch of its Private Tuition and Coaching (PT&C) campaign in the autumn.

This will be the second disclosure opportunity for professionals with those being targeted on this occasion being those providing educational or leisure teaching qualifications. This includes national curriculum tutors and fitness coaches.

Andy McQuillan, Tax Partner at Dains said “It is not yet known exactly what this opportunity will offer, but it is thought those who make voluntary disclosures will receive reduced penalties, in keeping with previous HMRC campaigns”.

Ahead of the launch, HMRC’s Risk and Intelligence Service has written to language schools, long distance learning companies and other similar colleges providing vocational courses to warn them of its intention to send out notices requiring certain information regarding payments made for teaching, lecturing, examining and invigilating, from which no PAYE has been deducted for the years ending 5 April 2009, 2010 and 2011.

If returns are not made as requested HMRC will impose an initial penalty of up to £300, with up to a further £60 a day if returns are still not made.
